Baltimore native William Fuld (1870-1927), creator of the Ouija board, attended the Maryland Institute for the Promotion of the Mechanic Arts (now Maryland Institute College of Art or MICA).
William and his brother Isaac founded Isaac Fuld & Brother in 1897 and signed an agreement with the Ouija Novelty Company for a term of three years. In 1901 the agreement was not extended and William signed an agreement exclusively with Ouija Novelty Company.
Following the split from his brother Isaac in 1902, William patented the word “oracle”. The Mystifying Oracle was offered as a cheaper alternative to the Ouija board.
